Chicken Soup

Method

The cold bug....how come something that is so tiny that you can't even see it, cause so much trouble. And, how the heck does it spread so fast. I was at home for the most part last week..and I am not sure where I got it and how..but been down with cold the past week...my little one caught it, had a fever and looks and feels normal just today. And to make this a family affair, my husband got it yesterday and its been full on cold mela at my house. So, given that....and the miserable weather that we are having, I made some chicken soup to warm the sore throats and make a comfortable dinner.

Take a small piece of cheesecloth and tie the pepper, coriander seeds and cumin seeds into a small bundle. This is optional. If you don't mind the spices floating around the soup, just put them in with all the other ingredients. Place the spice bundle and all the other ingredients in a pressure cooker. Cook for 2 whistles. Serve with a sprinkle of pepper and salt.

Verdict: Back home in India, this soup is made with naatu koli or game chicken, and this is believe to cure the cold. Not sure about the cure part, but it does warm you from the inside out..and the pepper and the spices are comfort to the sore throat. It is meant to be watery and is a clear soup. The veggies are not traditionally added into this soup, but I feel it adds body and makes it a wholesome meal.

Sending this to this week's 'Soup/Salad and Sammie Sundays'.
